Research & Laboratory
Working toward better care and groundbreaking research.
Where healthcare, science, and society come together
Do you want to contribute daily to better care and pioneering research? Then Sanquin’s laboratories are the right place for you. We are the organization behind the blood supply in the Netherlands and the national knowledge center for immunology and transfusion medicine. As a lab technician or analyst, you play a crucial role – for patients, physicians, and researchers.
Your work matters – from donor to patient
At our National Screening Laboratory (NSS), we test the blood of around 3,500 donors every day. Thanks to your efforts, that blood safely reaches those who urgently need it. You also perform complex diagnostics for hospitals, for example in challenging transfusion cases or to fine-tune medication. In addition, your analyses support scientific research and drug development. Everything you do contributes directly to improving healthcare.
High-tech and intellectually stimulating
Sanquin Diagnostics consists of 15 specialized laboratories, all ISO15189-certified and operating under GxP standards. You work with cutting-edge equipment and techniques – from ELISA, RIA, and chemiluminescence to molecular tests like PCR. Some labs are largely automated and deliver high volumes of results daily, while others focus on precision work for unique cases. No two days are the same.
What sets us apart: our profits don’t go to shareholders, but are reinvested in innovation. This allows us to offer complex and costly diagnostics that commercial labs often avoid. We see this as an essential public service.
Strong together – in expertise, technology, and commitment
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, our labs were on the front lines: providing testing capacity, researching antibodies, and contributing knowledge and dedication. That’s Sanquin. You feel the societal commitment here every day. The atmosphere is open and informal, with a strong focus on collaboration and content. We support each other, solve problems together, and all understand how important our work is for the patient.
Grow in what matters to you
At Sanquin, you have plenty of room to grow. You can take part in training, attend lectures by fellow scientists, and use your personal development budget. Whether you want to advance in quality control, move into management, or deepen your scientific expertise – we encourage you to make the most of your potential. Thanks to our partnerships with OLVG, the GGD, and Amsterdam UMC, you can continue to broaden your horizons.
At Sanquin, you’re not only working for today – you’re helping shape the healthcare of tomorrow. Will you join us?
