Medical & Blood Collection
Medical work at Sanquin – Care for the donor, safety for the patient.
As a medical professional at Sanquin, you make a difference every day – for donors and for patients.
At Sanquin, medical professionals work together every day towards one goal: a safe and reliable blood supply for the whole of the Netherlands. From assessing donors and safely collecting blood and plasma, to advising hospitals on complex transfusion questions – our teams play an indispensable role in healthcare.
Below, you will find three key roles within our medical department.
A unique field with many benefits
Working as a medical professional at Sanquin is different from many other healthcare settings:
- You mostly work with healthy individuals – our donors.
- You work during the day, occasionally in the evening, and sometimes on Saturdays. Never on Sundays or public holidays.
- Your work carries medical responsibility but is physically less demanding than clinical care.
- You enjoy a good work-life balance and a friendly atmosphere in close-knit teams.
Donor Doctor & Senior Donor Doctor
Medical work that impacts thousands of patients through healthy donors.
As a donor doctor, you assess the suitability of donors and monitor medical safety during donation. You do not work with patients, but with healthy, motivated people who want to contribute to society.
Senior donor doctors also have a coordinating role: they are the go-to people for complex cases, supervise fellow doctors and contribute to policy and quality improvement within the region.
What you will do:
- conduct medical examination
- assess physical and mental suitability
- advise and inform about donation
- assess acute abnormalities during donation
- as a senior: consultation, quality policy and coaching
