Medical and Health Sciences Internships

In collaboration with Amsterdam UMC (VUmc) and the Faculty of Social Sciences at VU University, Sanquin offers internships in donor medicine and behavioral sciences. As the Dutch center of expertise for blood and transfusion medicine, Sanquin is responsible for the blood supply and conducts scientific research on donation, blood, the immune system, and the development of medicines and diagnostic assays.

Our donor studies aim to improve the safety and effectiveness of donations for both donors and recipients. As an intern at Donor Studies, you’ll gain experience in a scientific environment and work on projects that directly impact the blood supply. Your tasks may include designing and conducting studies, data analysis, and writing scientific reports.

Blood collection

Sanquin is responsible for recruiting and retaining donors and organizes blood collection at donation centers throughout the Netherlands. The internship takes place in the Blood Collection department, where you’ll develop essential skills needed to work as a Whole Blood Donor Assistant, also known as a Blood Collection Specialist. During the internship, you’ll gain practical experience in guiding donors and possibly performing blood collection procedures, contributing significantly to the safety and quality of the blood supply in the Netherlands.
