Caring for people and the planet together
Sanquin has taken an important step toward a more sustainable future: our very first sustainability report for the year 2024 has been published. In this report, we show how sustainability is embedded in our daily work, from blood collection to research, and how we take responsibility for people, the environment, and society together with our partners.

At Sanquin, we take our social responsibility seriously. We consciously choose transparency, set measurable goals, and work with partners on concrete improvements. Sustainability is not an afterthought, but an integral part of our mission.
Sustainability as part of our mission
At Sanquin, everything revolves around helping people. But we want to do that in a way that’s also good for the world around us. That’s why we actively commit to sustainability in our buildings, processes, and services. We focus on four key areas:
- Reducing consumption and emissions
- Sustainable waste and procurement management
- Promoting equal treatment and opportunities
- Providing sustainable services
These form the foundation of our sustainability strategy and are embedded throughout our organization.
“Sanquin integrates sustainability into robust and efficient products and services—now and in the future.”
What does this mean for you as a donor?
As a donor, you might not always immediately notice Sanquin’s sustainability efforts. Still, there are things you may experience. For example, we critically assess the use of medical materials and waste processing, and we’re embracing digital solutions to reduce paper consumption. We also actively engage with suppliers about more sustainable products and packaging.

Would you like to contribute your ideas?
Your experience as a donor matters. You can contribute by coming to your donation appointment by bike, on foot, or using public transport. If you have ideas on how we can be more sustainable, please share them with us via our contact form: we’d love to hear from you! (Please mind that this form is yet only available in Dutch.)
