LSBR Anniversary Grant for proteomics research into blood diseases
The LSBR granted a unique research project called: HEMOTWIN-BD: Dissecting Proteoforms in Bleeding Disorders.
As part of a national consortium, Sanquin researchers were awarded the LSBR Anniversary Grant of €1.6 million to launch HemoTwin-BD, a multidisciplinary program to unravel why patients with inherited bleeding disorders or an unexplained bleeding tendency can have very different bleeding phenotypes.
This grant gives Maartje van den Biggelaar and her team the opportunity to combine large national patient studies and scientific expertise to investigate how genetic variation translates into proteoforms that shape the hemostatic potential. Using AI-based modelling we will build digital twins to uncover new biological mechanisms and ultimately pave the way for more personalized and safer treatment strategies.
