Medical priorities

Sanquin’s Department of Research consists of around 220 people, including some 30 group leaders and 100 PhD students and postdocs.  Our research is financed from both internal and external sources,  including funding organisations such as The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMW), health care funds, charities,  European research programs and biotech partnerships.

Sanquin collaborates with many research groups in the Netherlands and throughout the world. Group leaders often hold academic appointments with one of the Dutch universities or university medical centres. Sanquin provides educational programs to many pre and post graduate students, orginating from many schools and universities across the Netherlands and beyond.

Research at Sanquin is centered in four strategic themes, which we refer to as ‘Medical Priorities’.

Within Sanquin around 75-80 PhD students are working on a thesis.
