Exhibition ‘Zelfbeelden’ at Galerie Joghem
From March 17 until June 19 2026 Loes de Boer and Julia van Dijck will show their work at Galerie Joghem. The opening takes place on Thursday March 19th at 4.30 PM.
Loes de Boer (1999, NL) is an Amsterdam-based photographer who graduated from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) in mid-2024. Her work is rooted in personal reflection and addresses issues surrounding archiving, memory, and visibility, with a particular focus on queer and women-centered histories. Deconstruction and metamorphosis are central to her practice: images are reshaped through manipulation and repetition.
Her self-portraits operate within a feminist framework and offer a way to study herself through time. She works attentively with the body and its presence in front of the camera, following a slow and deliberate process. Each photograph captures a moment of change, with subtle shifts in posture and composition revealing the ongoing process of self-exploration.
Julia van Dijck (2001, NL) graduated from the University of Arts Utrecht in June 2025 and now lives and works in Antwerp. Her paintings combine acrylic and oil paint with airbrush techniques.Using herself as a point of departure, she explores a range of themes and contexts. By seeking contrast in both technique and subject matter, she creates images that illuminate and question the representation of women.
The works presented in this exhibition range from depictions of herself in her studio to a series that approaches the selfie as a contemporary form of self-portraiture. Together, these paintings reveal her broad and exploratory perspective on the theme of self-portrait.
