Research
- Around 175 researchers are employed at Sanquin, including seventeen professors and over 80 PhD candidates and postdocs.
- Each year, our researchers publish more than two hundred scientific papers.
- Annually, approximately twenty new PhD candidates begin their research at Sanquin, and a similar number of researchers earn their PhD.

Donating Blood
- In 2023, blood donors gave blood an average of 1.11 times.*
- In 2023, plasma donors donated an average of 3.66 times.*
- A total of 763,947 donations were made in 2024.*
- One donation may help three patients. Red blood cells, platelets, and plasma are all used in patient treatment.
- 30% of donated blood goes to cancer patients.

Donors
- 9.4% of our donors have blood group 0-, compared to 6.8% of the general Dutch population.
- Blood group 0- is the universal donor type and is therefore the most frequently requested.
- Two-thirds of all donors started donating blood to help save lives. A quarter of Dutch people do not become donors because they don't consider themselves healthy enough or are afraid of needles.
