Abortion

You may donate blood 6 weeks after termination of the pregnancy.

Abscess (ulcer)

You may donate blood 2 weeks after it has healed.
If you were treated with antibiotics for the abscess, you may donate blood again 2 weeks after taking the last tablet and the abscess or ulcer has been cured for more than 2 weeks.

Acid reflux

You may donate blood. If you have had a stomach exam (gastroscopy), you may only donate blood again 6 months after the exam, even if the results were normal.

Acne

You may donate blood.

If you have severe inflammation, donation is permitted once these have resolved completely.

If you use isotretinoin (RoaccutaneR/vitamin A), you may donate blood 2 months after taking the last tablet.

Ointments and lotions are generally not a contraindication.

Acne (juvenile)

You may donate blood as long as your acne is not active. If you have a clear inflammation, donation is only permitted after you have been symptom-free for 2 weeks and have not used antibiotics for 2 weeks. 
If you use Roaccutane (isotrentoin/vitamin A), you may donate blood 2 months after taking the last tablet.
Ointments and lotions are generally not a contraindication. 

Acupuncture

You may donate blood if this was performed using sterile disposable equipment by a qualified professional.
This is at the discretion of the blood bank’s donation doctor. You may not donate blood for 6 months following if you do not meet these requirements or in case of doubt.
If needles are still in the skin, the skin at the insertion site must not be inflamed.

Age

You may donate blood if you are between 18 and 70 years old. You can register as a blood donor until the age of 65 years.

Alcohol

You may not be under the influence of alcohol when donating blood.
It is also recommended you be careful with alcohol for the first 24 hours after donation.

Alcoholism or suspected alcoholism is a contraindication for being a blood donor.

Allergic alveolitis

You may donate blood if your general physical condition is good.

Allergy

You may donate blood if your general physical condition is good and there are no troublesome (local) effects.
