In 2004 the World Health Organization (WHO) named 14 June as World Blood Donor Day. On this day - one of the WHO's eight international health days - voluntary and unpaid blood donation is spotlighted worldwide. Donors give patients a chance at recovering their health, staying healthy or improving their quality of life.
