Regional donor councils
| Regional donor councils promote the interests of donors within Sanquin. Donors are the heart of the Dutch blood supply. It therefore goes without saying that the interests of the donors are of vital importance to Sanquin. The Netherlands Red Cross, the Federation of Blood Donors’ Associations, the Donor Advisory Council, and various Dutch donor associations and donor committees met in September 2002 to discuss the ways that this interest could best be promoted. The parties came to the conclusion that fixed structure and continuity are essential and therefore decided to establish four regional donor councils to promote the general interests of the donors at the blood banks in each region. The donor councils submit proposals about all issues related to the care of the donors. They will also advise the blood banks, at the request of the blood banks themselves or if the council itself finds it necessary. Every Regional Donor Council delegates one member to the National Donor Council. In addition to this, the Netherlands Red Cross and the Federation of Blood Donor Associations each appoint a member. For the time being, the Chairman of the current Donor Advisory Council will remain a member as well. The National Donor Council also promotes the general interests of donors within Sanquin, but then at a national level. Members of the Regional Donor Council
