‘Dictyostelium chemotaxis studied with fluorescence fluctuation spectroscopy’

Research interests
C1-inhibitor My research is focussed on elucidating the role of the N-terminal domain of C1-inhibitor (C1-inh) in anti-inflammation. I am particularly interested in the effect of glycosylation of the N-terminal domain. C1-inh is an anti-inflammatory plasma protein and is the major inhibitor of proteases of the complement and contact pathways. Recent in vivo studies have shown that C1-inh can also have anti-inflammatory properties independent of its protease inhibitory functions. These novel properties of C1-inh are attributed to the glycosylations on the non-protease N-terminal domain of the protein. Specifically, I am studying the anti-inflammatory effects of C1-inh mediated by interactions with endothelial cell surface proteins and with lipopolysaccharides. In addition, I am interested in the changes in C1-inh glycosylation during inflammation.
