Immunology of DNA
1977 - University of Amsterdam - Research interests
- Immune response to non-infectious agents. In man we analyse the B cell response to a number of therapeutic proteins such as monoclonal antibodies and cytokines. In addition and in cooperation with other parties we exploit animal models to verify our human data and to be able to manipulate the immunogenicity of proteins. Interaction of plasma proteins with cells in health and disease. We analyse which plasma proteins bind to live and dead cells. Lately our studies concentrate on HABP2, a serine protease that acts as a sensor for dead cells. We have observed strong activation of HABP2 in patients with a variety of diseases and try to unravel the physiological consequences of this activation.
